People's leader Karpuri Thakur

Karpuri Thakur was born on 24 January 1924 in a village named Pitaujia under Samastipur district of Bihar state. His father's name was Shri Gokul Thakur and mother's name was Smt. Ramdulari Devi. His father was a small farmer and also worked as a barber in his traditional profession.

He passed his secondary examination from Patna in 1940. He played an active role in the Quit India Movement. He was sentenced to 26 months during the freedom struggle. After independence, he worked as a teacher in his village.

He was a person who never lost an election after winning the first Bihar assembly elections in 1952. He was also the Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister of Bihar state.

 Karpoori Thakur became the Chief Minister of Bihar state for the first time on 22 December 1970, but he resigned from this post on 2 June 1971. Karpoori Thakur became the Chief Minister of Bihar state for the second time on 24 June 1977, but again on 21 April 1979
He resigned from the post of Chief Minister. While being the Chief Minister, Karpoori Thakur had completely banned liquor.

In 1977, he won the post of leader from the big leader of that time, Satyendra Narayan Sinha. Loknayak Jaiprakash Narayan and Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia were the political gurus of Karpoori Thakur. The system of reservation in government jobs for backward people in Bihar was given during his tenure.

He focused on four programs for the all-round development of Bihar state-

1. Polarization of backward classes.

2. Promotion of Hindi.

3. Socialist ideology.

4. Bringing the right benefits of agriculture to the farmers.

Despite being the Chief Minister twice, Deputy Chief Minister, and Minister many times, Karpoori Thakur did not even have a house to live in. He worked for the establishment of an egalitarian society. He is known as a great socialist leader. It is because of his achievements that he was recognized as a people's leader. He died on 17 February 1988 at the age of 64.
