CLASS VIII-RESOURCES:UTILIZATION AND DEVELOPMENT

Notes  
Resources-All the things on earth which are necessary for our existence on this planet are called resources. 

UTILIZATION OF RESOURCES
1.Availability of resources
2.Skill of human beings
3.Availability of capital
4.Advancement of technology
5.Availability of transportation and communication facilities

CLASSIFICATION OF RESOURCES
Classification based on Renewability:-
RENEWABLE RESOURCES:-These resources can be renewed either naturally or by human effects. For example-solar energy, air, water. 

NON-RENEWABLE RESOURCES:-These resources take millions of years to be renewed. For example- energy resources like coal, petroleum etc. 

Classification based on origin
BIOTIC RESOURCES:-Resources , which are obtained from biosphere and have life are know as biotic resources. For example birds, animals, fish etc. 

ABIOTIC RESOURCES:-All non-living resources are known as abiotic resources. For example-land, water, minerals etc. 

Classification based on Occurrence NATURAL RESOURCES:-Resources available from nature in the form of water, minerals, forests etc. and used by human beings to satisfy their needs are called natural resources. 

MAN-MADE RESOURCES:-Resources created by human beings to satisfy their needs are known as man-made resources. For example-road, buildings, machines etc. 

Classification based on Development of resources

POTENTIAL RESOURCES:-Resources which are available in any country but are not fully tapped are known as potential resources. For example- petroleum can be found in old sedimentary rocks of Himalayas or hydro-electricity can be generated by the force of falling water. 

ACTUAL RESOURCES:-The country resources those which have been thoroughly surveyed and their quantities are ascertained. For example-Saudi Arabia has 25.9 percent of the world oil resources. 

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND CONSERVATION

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT:-It means development that take place without damaging the environment. 
1.Use all renewable resources judiciously. 
2.Minimise the depletion of natural resources. 
3.Conserve the varied species. 

CONSERVATION:-It means sustainable and optimum utilization of resources.
