(D) Answer the following questions in brief.

1. What was Din-i-Ilahi and who started it?

Answer-

Din-i-Ilahi was not a religions but a socio-religious path to bridge the differences among different communities, It was stated by Akbar.

2.Why is Shah Jahan known as an Engineer King?

Answer-

The peacock Throne, The Taj Mahal at Agra, The Red fort and Jama Masjid in Delhi, and numerous other works of art and architecture testify his wealth as well as his aesthetic sense, So Shah Jahan is known as an Engineer King.

3.What was the political condition of India before Babur's invasion?

Answer-


At that time, India was divided into a number of small states. These small kingdoms are incapable to standing up to any forgein aggression. The situation in Punjab, Gujarat, Bengal, Malwa, Rajputana , Kashmir etc. was quite bad. There was widespread lawlessness and disorder. The local rulers were popular among the masses.

4. State the main features of Jahangir's rule.

Answer-

1. Jahangir consolidated his territories and developed the administrative system.

2. The court culture of the Mughals flourished.

3.Mughal painting reached its Zenith.

4.He restarted the war with Rajputs.

5.Briefly explain the" Mansabdari System".

Answer-

Mansabdari system was based on rank or position in the officials hierarchy. The Mansabdars were responsible for both civil and military administration.

1.Mention the difficulties faced by Humayan after coming to the throne.

Answer-

Humayun faced innumerable difficulties to retain the Mughal Empire in India.

1. Babur had gifted separate provinces to his other three sons.

2.The army was a combination of people from different countries and language groups.

3. Humayun had inherited an empty treasury.

4.He had to face opposition from his brothers, relatives, Afgans and Rajputs.

2.Describe Shah Jahan's Deccan Policy.

Answer-

Under Shah Jahan, the Deccan policy of the Mughal entered a new phase. He annexed Ahmadnagar and Dultabad. He faced the rulers of Bijapur and Golconda to accept his supermacy. In 1636, Shah Jahan retried to Agra and appointed Aurangzeb as the Governor of Deccan.

3.Describe the uniform system of administration established by the Mughals.

Answer-

The Mughals established a uniform system of administration which was a combination of both Indian and Persian system. They believed in the supreme authority of King. A strong army and efficient ministers assisted the emperor. The whole empire was divided into Subas which were governed by subedars. The Diwan was the collector of land revenue. The Kotwal looked after the law and order in the city.

4.List the five factors responsible for the decline of the Mughal empire.

Answer-

1. The Mughals did not have any rule of succession and hence, the death of each ruler resulted in bloody wars and conspiracy of nobles.

2.The religious intolerance of Aurangzeb turned the Rajputs against him, who had always supported the Mughal empire.

3.Weak and inefficient successors of Aurangzeb provided and open invitation for internal rebels and foreign invasions.

4.Corrupt officials and heavy burden of land revenue resulted in revolts by leading to low tax collection.

5. Aurangzeb remained in Deccan for almost 20 years which gave an opportunity to governments to establish independent states.

5. Compare the religious policy of Akbar with that of Aurangzeb.

Answer

Akbar was secular in true sense and respected all religious while Aurangzeb was orthodox.

Akbar was tolerate  towards of other religion but Aurangzeb did not tolerate the other religion.

Akbar did not forced Hindus to adopt Islam but Aurangzeb forced Hindus to adopt Islam.

Akbar did not impose Jazia on Hindus but Aurangzeb imposed Jazia on Hindus.
