Mahatma Narayan Das Grover(Death Anniversary 06February)


Mahatma Narayan Das Grover (15th November 1923 – 6th February 2008) 

He was a distinguished educationist and devoted Arya Samaj activist. Holding a master’s degree in Chemistry from Punjab University, he began his teaching career at D.A.V. College, Lahore, in 1945. After the partition, he continued his work at D.A.V. College, Ambala City, until 1960. He then became the founding principal of D.A.V. College, Abohar, Punjab, serving from 1960 to 1977, during which he established several educational institutions. From 1977 to 1982, he was the principal of Dayanand Post Graduate College, Hissar, Haryana.

In recognition of his dedication, Grover was granted life membership in the D.A.V. Society in 1957, an honor reserved for the most committed members of the Arya Samaj. He also served as Vice-President of the D.A.V. College Managing Committee (DAVCMC), New Delhi.

Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy, Grover led a life of simplicity and selfless service, dedicating himself to the spread of education. Affectionately called 'Jholewala Baba' and revered as a 'Karmyogi,' he worked tirelessly to establish schools and colleges across Punjab, Haryana, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal.

Beyond education, Grover was a dedicated social reformer. He founded the 'Vedic Bal Ashram' to support children orphaned by Odisha’s super cyclone and initiated 'SANKALP SARV SHIKSHA' centers to combat illiteracy among the poor. His commitment to healthcare led him to organize free eye camps for Adivasis and establish 'Swami Dayanand Netralaya' in Khunti, Jharkhand, offering free treatment and medicines.

A staunch advocate for women's empowerment, he championed education for women, particularly in rural and tribal areas, and introduced vocational training programs to promote self-reliance.

Throughout his life, Grover remained an unwavering follower of Maharshi Dayanand and a devoted Arya Samaj worker. He was known for his selflessness, open-mindedness, honesty, and fearless determination. He passed away on 6th February 2008 in Chandigarh, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to education and social reform.
