Answer:-
Utility and value of a resource very from time to time and place to place. For example-
A) 20years ago there were no telephones, Cell phones but now everyone wants it. 
B) In old time man becomes satisfied with fulfilling their basic needs of food shelter and clothing, but as we advanced our needs become multifarious
C) Earlier time water is used for irrigation and drinking but now we are using water for generating electricity, irrigation, drinking and navigation. 

Question 2.Why are human beings considered the most important resource for development
Answer:-
A) Human beings have an intelligent mind which can make best use of nature to create more resources. 
B) Had humans not been there different substances would not have been resources. 
C) Their utility can be only realised by human beings. 

Question 3.Differentiate between biotic and abiotic resources. Give example for each
Answer:-
Biotic resources :-The  resources are obtained from biosphere and have life. For example-bird animal etc. 
Abiotic resources:-These resources are non-living.For example-land, water, minerals etc. 

Question 4.Why is there a need for resource planning? Give three examples. 
Answer-
It is essential to have resource planning because of the following reasons-
1.It helps to identify the various resources present in different regions of the country. 
2.It helps in the conservation of various non renewable resources. 
3.It helps in reducing wastage of resources. 

Question 5.Mention any six factors on which the utilisation of resources depend. 
Answer:-
1.Availability of resources
2.Skills of human beings
3.Availability  of capital
4.Advancement of technology
5.Availability of transportation
6.Availability of water

Answer:-
1.It is a fact that human needs and wants are neither uniform in all part of the world nor static over the year. They generally grow and become complete with the process of change in the society. 
2.In ancient times emphasis was mainly given on satisfying the basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter which were divided from the natural environment. 
3.In advanced societies, gather emphasis has been given to utilisation of resources for satisfying the multifarious needs of human beings. 

Question 2.Distinguish between renewable and non-renewable resources. Which one of the two would you prefer to use and why? 
Answer:-
Renewable resources
1.Resources which can be renewed either naturally by human efforts are renewable resources. 
2.Renewable resources are also called in exhaustible resources. 
3.The quality of these resources can be affected by usage. 
Non-renewable resources
1.Resources which take a longer period of time to be renewed is called non-renewable resources. 
2.Non-renewable resources are also called exhaustible resources. 
3.These resources are limited on the earth's surface and their complete utilisation would result in their exhaustion. 

Question 3 What is meant by Sustainable Development? Why is Sustainable Development the need of the hour? 
Answer-
Sustainable development means development that take place without damaging the environment. 
Sustainable development is a need of an hour because the resources are unevenly distributed and we all are becoming in fact have become dependent on resources, we are consuming our resources without thinking about the future generation. A time come when three will be no resources left to be used. 

Question 4.Describe the various basis of classification of resources with the help of examples. 
Answer:-

CLASSIFICATION OF RESOURCES

Classification based on Renewability:-

RENEWABLE RESOURCES:-These resources can be renewed either naturally or by human effects. For example-solar energy, air, water. 
NON-RENEWABLE RESOURCES:-These resources take millions of years to be renewed. For example- energy resources like coal, petroleum etc. 
Classification based on origin

BIOTIC RESOURCES:-Resources , which are obtained from biosphere and have life are know as biotic resources. For example birds, animals, fish etc. 
ABIOTIC RESOURCES:-All non-living resources are known as abiotic resources. For example-land, water, minerals etc. 
Classification based on Occurrence 

NATURAL RESOURCES:-Resources available from nature in the form of water, minerals, forests etc. and used by human beings to satisfy their needs are called natural resources. 
MAN-MADE RESOURCES:-Resources created by human beings to satisfy their needs are known as man-made resources. For example-road, buildings, machines etc. 
Classification based on Development of resources

POTENTIAL RESOURCES:-Resources which are available in any country but are not fully tapped are known as potential resources. For example- petroleum can be found in old sedimentary rocks of Himalayas or hydro-electricity can be generated by the force of falling water. 
ACTUAL RESOURCES:-The country resources those which have been thoroughly surveyed and their quantities are ascertained. For example-Saudi Arabia has 25.9 percent of the world oil resources.
